Entry formalities<\/strong>
To enter the country, Europeans must present a passport valid for six months after return and a visa (50USD) which can be easily done at the airport upon arrival. It is also possible to do it online. https:\/\/eservices.immigration.go.tz\/visa\/ <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In order to enter Zanzibar, an insurance policy (44USD) is compulsory. You can obtain it strictly online.\u00a0\u00a0https:\/\/visitzanzibar.go.tz\/insurance<\/a><\/strong>

If there are more than three people in the car, please take travel bags and not suitcases, so that the space in the car remains comfortable. For Zanzibar, only one piece of luggage is allowed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Health, vaccinations<\/strong>
Vaccinations are optional. Check the requirements on healthytravel.ch. An anti-malaria treatment is essential and remember to take an anti-mosquito spray.
In any case, check with a doctor or specialist before your departure.
Medical care: Hospitals require a financial guarantee before treating patients (credit card or advance payment).
Traveler’s diarrhea (turista) is often caused by eating food contaminated with micro-organisms. Dirty hands, raw vegetables or fruit peeled under dubious conditions, and drinking unboiled water are the main sources of turista. Bathing in dirty water will give the same result. The diarrhea can be progressive or on the contrary instantaneous, with perhaps vomiting accompanied or not by abdominal pain. Therefore, remember to take anti-diarrhea medication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local Time<\/strong>
Tanzania is one hour ahead of continental Europe in summer and two hours ahead in winter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clothing<\/strong>
Bring a sweater and a windbreaker for nights near the crater or in bivouac, as well as for stays in July and August, which can be dry but cold seasons. Indeed, the temperature can drop at night to 40-50 C. (390-41 F.) which is felt even more clearly given the relatively high temperature of the day. It is advisable to wear light pants in the parks to protect against insects. Sunscreen is also useful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Safety<\/strong>
On safari, there is little or no risk. On the coast and in the cities, do not expose yourself with jewelry and do not carry large sums of money. Do not carry a handbag. Use the hotel safe for all your documents and valuables. Do not go out after 10 pm. At present, it is highly recommended to walk around Arusha with a guide and without any bag or apparent valuables, even during the day. Ask your hotel for more information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Languages<\/strong>
The official languages are Kiswahili and English. But about 120 ethnic groups live in Tanzania, each with its own language. In the north, the Maasai are numerous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Electricity<\/strong>
230 volts, 50 hertz; round or three square plugs. In the lodges or camps on safari, there is only partial power in pre-fixed tents with access to a generator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For excursions with a local guide (to Lake Natron and the Bushmen), please allow an extra $20 per car. You’ll also need to set aside a few dollars for drivers, porters and hotel and lodge staff, whose modest initial salaries also depend on your generosity. The amount is then up to you, but always welcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Money<\/strong>
The monetary unit of Tanzania is the shilling (TZS)
1 $ = approx. 2295 TZS
1000 TZS = about $0.23
There are bills from 1000 to 10000 TZS and coins from 5 cents to 200 TZS.
You can exchange your currency (preferably US$, but also Euros) in any branch of the National Bank of Commerce or in an official exchange office. Credit cards are increasingly accepted, with a preference for American Express or Diners Club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Telephone<\/strong>
The telephone works well for international calls. It costs about 2.50$ per minute. In general, hotels have wifi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Insurance<\/strong>
The agency does not assume any responsibility in case of illness or accident during the stay in Tanzania. It is therefore up to the client to take the necessary measures to cover these risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to your usual luggage, here are some suggestions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

– A good fleece for the evening. It can get really cool after sunset.

– It will be hot during the day, but if you have light pants and long-sleeved sweaters to protect you from the sun during the actual safaris and the roof of the car is open, that’s fine.
– Waterproof sandals or small sneakers not too bad for walking in the water in Natron.
– Shorts or skirt. Be careful with your clothing in Zanzibar, which is 80% Muslim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
